Abia state Governor,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated a six -member
Abia State Committee on moribund industries with the aim of
revitalizing ailing government and private industries in the state.
The committee which is headed by a renowned industrialist and former
Nigeria Ambassador to Argentina, Chief Empire Kanu is also to
interface with the private companies to match-make them with those
with expertise to revive them.
Inaugurating the Committee at the Government House, Umuahia, the
Governor charged the Committee to reach out even beyond the shores of
the country to ensure that the companies are brought back to life.
‘’It doesn’t matter who owns the industries. Government has no
interest in the companies other than that Abia Youths will work in the
companies and by so doing unemployment and crime will be reduced’’.
‘’All that I’m interested in is that we can begin to tackle
unemployment and have key items needed in the state.’’
According to him, the continued existence and sustenance of moribund
industries rest on the shoulders of the Committee noting that some of
the Industries have gone down due to unavailability of raw materials
and obsolete technology among other reasons.
He expressed confidence that the team can reach out to those with
bearing resuscitation of the moribund Industries.
Responding on behalf of the others, the Chairman of the Committee,
Chief Empire Kanu thanked the Governor for choosing them and promised
that they will use their various professional experience to achieve
