………..Paid Courtesy Visit On Gbong Gwom Jos In Plateau State.
The Honourable Minister of State Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Hon Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu during his official visit to Plateau State performed several functions. These include the flagging off of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Empowerment Project REHAEPI in KWALL, Bassa Local government area, Distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons in BOKKOS and paid a courtesy visit on the Gbong GWOM Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs, His Majesty, Da Dr Jacob Gyang Buba (CFR).
The Honourable Minister was accompanied by the Honourable Federal Commissioner National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Tijani Aliyu Ahmed and other dignitaries from both the Federal and State governments on Tuesday 3rd December 2024.
During the flag off of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Empowerment Project REHAEPI in KWALL Bassa Local government area of Plateau State, the Honourable Minister of State stated that the palliative offered to the IDPs is in line with the 8 Point Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR , in the area of Food Security, Poverty Reduction and Collaboration.
He said the agriculture project has collaboration between the NCFRMI and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, collaboration between Federal government and IDPs, between Federal and State governments and between government and host communities and individuals.
The Minister disclosed that the REHAEPI project initiated by NCFRMI is a stop gap approach to make the IDPs relevant and self reliant in their engagement.
He reminded the IDPS that the Federal government has good plans for them, government has brought them together, trained and armed them with skills.
The aim of the project is to generate interest, develop skills and empower IDPs. He said Mr President is aware of the challenges of IDPs and has directed the Ministry to address their challenges through sustainable solutions.
He encouraged the IDPs to practice the skills learnt when they have eventually resettled in their ancestral homes to contribute to the food security of the country.
He said the Ministry has endorsed the stop gap approach and very soon a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed between the NCFRMI and the National Agricultural Land Development Agency so that it can be formalized.
The Minister also distributed food items to IDPs in BOKKOS who were displaced due to insurgency and natural disaster.
He assured them that the FG is doing its best to improve their plight and resettle them back to their ancestral homes.
The Minister enjoined them to relate well with the host communities, be their brothers keepers and be security conscious because security is everyone’s business. He encouraged them to cooperate with security agencies and provide necessary information when needed.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner NCFRMI Tijani Aliyu Ahmed earlier in his speech stated that the REHAEPI project is a collaboration between the NCFRMI and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
“The take off was done in Loko, Nasarawa State in July, 2024 with 200 and 150 hectares of land. It was Replicated in Plateau and Borno State”.
He said the project is a pilot scheme and the Commission is willing to expand the project.
He called on the Ministry to continue to support the commission to succeed.
The Executive Secretary SEMA Plateau State Hon. Sunday Audu appreciated the Ministry, NCFRMI for the interventions in the State and assured that the gesture will not be misused. The beneficiaries will continue to pray for the peace and security of the state and the country at large.
At the palace of the Gbong GWOM Jos, the Minister commiserated with the His Majesty over the demise of his son and prayed to God to comfort him, his family and his subjects.
He informed His Majesty of the list of activities he came to do in the State.
Dr Sununu suggested to the Majesty on need to caution his subjects against early disposable of their farm products and also encourage them to go into dry season farming.
He expressed appreciation for the appointment of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda who is the son of the state. He thanked Mr President over the appointment considering the suffering of the people of the state due to Humanitarian crises.
His Majesty, thanked the Minister for the visit and called on the federal government to continue to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable persons in the country.
He appreciated the President for reaching out to the vulnerable citizens.
He called on the Federal government to provide durable solution to citizens and improve on the security situation in the country to enable farmers go back to their communities and be self sufficient.
On the issue of dry season farming, His Majesty informed that the state has dams that need to be resuscitated to boost the capacity of farmers.
He also requested that traditional rulers in the country should be involved in the interventions provided by the Federal government to add value to the programmes in the states.
