DSS Engages Abia Journalists on Sustenance of Peace

FIC Report (Abia State) The newly deployed Abia State Director of Department of State Security, DSS, to Abia State, Mr. Friday Onuche has sought for stronger partnership with the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, on maintaining sustainable Peace in the State.

The State DSS Director made the call when he received in his Office in Umuahia, Executive and State Working Committee of NUJ, led by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Victor Ndukwe described the Command and the Council as partners in progress to maintain peace.

Onuche who was flanked by other senior officers of the State Command during the courtesy visit, said the media has the capacity to assist in the current security challenges, “They assist you to douse tension in the State or escalate it”.

He disclosed that he has been briefed about the collaborative relationship between his predecessor and the leadership of the State Council.

Mr. Onuche who maintained that no institution or organization can do it alone as they require to collaborate, synergize with Journalists, while observed that “If there is insecurity in the State, the Journalists are also affected as the environment would not conducive for them to practice or carry out their statutory responsibilities to the society.

He noted that Journalists with their trade and skill can build or destroy a society while urged them to consider using their Practice to promote peace, stability, and development of the State.

In his remarks, the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Victor Ndukwe welcomed the new DSS State Director while assured of continued cooperation from the Union.

He advised the new State Director to also extend such collaboration with sister Security Agencies in the State in order to reduce observed increasing crime especially kidnapping in the State.
