FIC Report (Ebonyi State) – The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has reassured the Ebonyi workforce of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the continuous improvement of their welfare, describing workers as the “indispensable engine room” of governance.
The Governor made this declaration during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, GCEHF, stated that his administration remains deeply sensitive to the economic realities facing the labour force. He noted that this empathy led to the implementation of a robust welfare structure, including the upward review of the State Minimum Wage to N95,000.
The Governor noted the total clearance of arrears for pensions and gratuities for retirees from the State’s creation in 1996 to date, the sustained payment of the N150,000 annual Christmas bonus to every state worker, aggressive training and retraining programs for civil servants both locally and internationally and the comprehensive enrollment of workers into the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme (EBSHIA) for quality and affordable medical care.
Our administration recognizes that the productivity of any government is tied to the motivation of its workforce. We have moved beyond promises to concrete actions by ensuring our workers and retirees are treated with the dignity they deserve.
Governor Francis Nwifuru further charged the organized labour Unions to maintain a culture of constructive engagement with the government, urging union leaders to prioritize dialogue in addressing emerging concerns for the collective progress of the State.
