FIC Report (Edo State) – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has issued a compelling appeal for the immediate and unconditional release of all kidnapping victims across Nigeria. In addition, he emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in the nation’s political landscape, condemning violence and criminality as illegitimate means to achieve political power.
The Governor made this call during the official launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the upcoming Edo South Senatorial District local government elections, on June 9, 2026, at Urhokpota Hall, in the heart of Edo State’s Political hub, Benin City.
The Governor’s ’s appeal was motivated by the alarming rise in insecurity across Nigeria, with recent reports of abductions involving students, teachers, and civilians in states like Oyo and Edo. He condemned these acts, stressing that criminality cannot be justified or used as a pathway to political influence. His call aims to pressurize authorities to prioritize the safe return of kidnapped persons and to reinforce the nation’s commitment to peace and security.

In his speech, Governor Okpebholo condemned the wave of insecurity, asserting that violence and criminal activities threaten Nigeria’s democratic process and social stability. He urged security agencies and government officials to intensify efforts to rescue abducted citizens and prevent future crimes, emphasizing that political aspirations should be pursued through peaceful and lawful means.
The Governor also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies. He praised these measures for increasing states’ financial capacities, enabling them to fund critical infrastructure and development projects that benefit ordinary citizens.
Reaffirming Edo State’s loyalty to the Federal Government, he declared: “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. Edo State will stand firmly behind President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda as we approach the 2027 elections.”
Furthermore, the Governor outlined his Administration’s new Political vision for Edo State—one that emphasizes Youth participation and leadership development. He outlined that “Empowering Youths is essential for the State’s future growth.
The gathering included prominent Party Leaders, Stakeholders, Supporters, and the newly unveiled APC Candidates, notably Engr. Ogbeide Ihama, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, and Hon. Omosede Igbinedion. Governor Okpebholo, as the leading figure in Edo APC, played a central role in the proceedings.

Party Supporters and Stakeholders expressed confidence in the candidates’ ability to deliver good governance and pledged unwavering support for the party’s electoral ambitions.
This Campaign underscores Edo State’s focus on Security, Youth Empowerment, and Political Integrity as the State prepares for the upcoming Local Government elections, reaffirming its commitment to progress and democracy.
