FIC REPORT (EDO STATE) – The Edo State Police Command and the State Ministry of Education have strengthened their partnership to enhance the security of schools across the State ahead of the resumption of academic activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, PSC(+), MNIPS, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when he received the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Osifo Washington, Esq., who paid a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Benin City.
The engagement focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration and ensuring the effective activation and implementation of Safe Schools Operations across Edo State, particularly as schools prepare to resume academic activities.
According to a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, ASP Eno Ikoedom, ANIPR, the meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to review measures aimed at improving security coordination and protecting members of the school community.
CP Daaor directed the immediate dissemination of the official telephone contacts of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to schools within their respective jurisdictions.
He explained that the measure would provide school authorities with direct and timely access to the Police for prompt reporting of security concerns, effective information sharing and rapid response to emerging threats.
The Commissioner further stressed the importance of proactive security measures and effective communication between school authorities and security agencies in preventing incidents and addressing potential threats before they escalate.
As part of the agreed measures, the two institutions resolved to constitute a joint enquiry and assessment team to conduct comprehensive field assessments of schools across the State.
The team will identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities within and around school premises and make recommendations on appropriate measures to strengthen the safety and security of students, teachers, administrative personnel and other members of the school community.
The initiative is expected to further enhance coordination between the Police and the education authorities while promoting a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The meeting ended on a cordial note, with the Commissioner of Police and the Commissioner for Education reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration in safeguarding educational institutions and ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff across Edo State.
The visit concluded with an exchange of photographs to commemorate the engagement.
