FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Police Command has recorded another significant operational breakthrough with the recovery of thirty-six (36) rounds of live cartridges and the arrest of a suspect during a routine stop-and-search operation in Benin City.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, officers attached to the Ikpoba Hill Area Command, while carrying out a stop-and-search operation at Guobadia Junction along the Benin–Auchi Road on 23rd May, 2026, at about 1300hrs, intercepted a mini bus conveying seven passengers from the Benin–Auchi Bypass to Ring Road, Benin City.
During the operation, three male passengers reportedly abandoned their belongings and attempted to flee the scene upon sighting the security operatives. The officers, however, swiftly pursued the suspects and successfully apprehended one of them, identified as Richard Gabriel, 36, from Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.
A subsequent search conducted on the suspect’s bag led to the recovery of thirty-six (36) rounds of live cartridges concealed therein.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the vigilance, professionalism, and swift response of the officers involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Edo State.
Residents have also been urged to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to maintain peace and public safety in the State.
