At the Games Village of the Paris Olympics, Team Nigeria Athletes were jubilating and full of excitement as they received their training grants and allowances.
The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh said it was a testament to the ministry’s concerns for the welfare of the country’s athletes both local and foreign based.
Sen. Enoh, disclosed that this would be the first time that home-based athletes representing the country would receive training grants.
The Minister noted that the home-based athletes complained of never receiving training grants, as this has only been a privilege for their foreign-based counterparts representing the country but this time around it went round to all of them as they all put in their best to make the country proud.
“We have ensured for the first time ever, home-based athletes representing the country also receive training grants. Foreign and home-based athletes have now received training grants in addition to all other allowances already paid.” he said
As the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris enters its 11th day, Team Nigeria will have a busy day with 11 athletes competing across three sports: canoe sprint, athletics, and wrestling.
Team Nigeria’s athletes will be competing at various times throughout the day, striving for excellence and aiming to secure more medals for the country.
