……..Appeal For Its Extension Across All Tertiary Institutions.
FIC REPORT (NIGER STATE) – The Executive Governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has advocated the need for an extension of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund NELFUND policy to be extended to all tertiary institutions in the Country to enable students gain access to the noble initiative.
The Farmer Governor made thesuggestion when he received the Senate committee on Tertiary education and TETFUND on a courtesy visit at the Government House Minna.
Farmer Umaru Bago commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the NELFUND policy which is giving children of the less privileged opportunity to afford school adding that, it is a good initiative which has been practiced in developed countries.
The farmer governor also commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for its impact in Nigeria as it has brought tremendous development to infrastructure and equipping learning institutions at the tertiary level in the Country.
He explained that the project should be sustained and be given continuous support even as he reaffirmed that his administration will continue to provide all the needed support for its survival.
While thanking the Committee for embarking on an oversight function in the State, the farmer governor appreciated the Committee for the visit and the good work it has been doing to improve the education sector.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Mohammed Danduste Muktari said they were on an oversight visit to the State and to engage with tertiary institutions across the North-Central region.
He explained that Niger State is particularly important to the committee because of its strategic role in the region and its contribution to Nigeria’s educational development.
The Chairman said the committee is in the State to engage with Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, as part of its oversight responsibilities and efforts to strengthen tertiary education infrastructure and development.
He further said the visit is in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian child is left behind in educational development.
He then assured the Governor of the committee’s willingness to work with relevant institutions in the State to advance the development of tertiary education and maximise the opportunities provided through TETFund interventions.
