NSCDC, Immigration Deepen Collaboration Against Irregular Migration in Abia

FIC REPORT (ABIA STATE) – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have resolved to strengthen their operational collaboration and develop new strategies to combat irregular migration in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, FCIA, KSM, JP, disclosed this on Tuesday when the State Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, A. R. Mammam, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Corps’ Command Headquarters in Umuahia.

Mammam, while commending the existing synergy between the two security agencies, called for expanded areas of cooperation to enable both organisations to effectively discharge their statutory responsibilities.

She identified irregular migration as an area requiring renewed attention and urged the agencies to review their operational strategies and adopt more effective measures to address the challenge.

Responding, Odimba assured the Immigration Service of the NSCDC’s readiness to deepen strategic engagement and strengthen inter-agency cooperation towards maintaining a safe and secure Abia State.

The NSCDC Commandant agreed that innovative and sustainable strategies were required to tackle irregular migration, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He consequently directed the Head of the Corps’ Irregular Migration Unit to liaise with his counterpart in the Immigration Service to develop practical measures to address the menace.

Odimba also appealed to the Immigration Service to assist in facilitating official passport applications for management officers of the Abia NSCDC, particularly those required to participate in overseas training programmes and other official assignments.

The Immigration Comptroller expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded her and members of her delegation, while reaffirming the importance of sustained collaboration between the two security agencies.
Senior officers from both organisations attended the meeting.

Highlights of the visit included the signing of the visitors’ register by the Immigration Comptroller, exchange of protocol plaques and a group photograph.

The NSCDC Command reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining a crime-free, peaceful and secure society in Abia State.
