FIC REPORT (EDO STATE) – The Federal Government has donated a new ambulance to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to bolster emergency medical response and improve healthcare services at the institution. The ambulance was officially handed over by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Denis Idahosa, to UBTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-iyamu, on Monday, August 31st.
During the ceremony, Prof. Ize-iyamu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the donation, highlighting its significance in strengthening the hospital’s emergency response capabilities and patient care. She also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the support and thanked the Deputy Governor for his role in facilitating infrastructural improvements across Edo State’s health sector.
The Chief Medical Director explained that the ambulance would significantly enhance UBTH’s capacity to respond swiftly to emergencies, particularly in transporting trauma cases from the scene of distress to the hospital for treatment and specialized interventions. She assured the public that the vehicle would be used responsibly to advance the hospital’s mission.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor recalled his efforts to secure the donation during his time in the House of Representatives. He praised President Tinubu, the Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, and the Federal Ministry of Health for their ongoing support. He also called for more federal projects and modern medical equipment for UBTH, emphasizing its critical role in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Furthermore, Idahosa commended the resilience of UBTH’s management and staff in delivering quality healthcare to the people of Edo State. He assured them that the current administration, led by Governor Monday Omo-Owo, will continue to support infrastructural development to enhance the hospital’s capacity to serve the community effectively.
