FIC Report (Ogun State) – The Federal Government has reinforced its commitment to modernising Nigeria’s livestock sector with the handover of a fully equipped Primary Animal Health Centre to Ogun State under the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy, NLGAS.

The facility, located in Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North LGA, is part of a nationwide rollout to establish 774 clinics, one in each LGA. The aim is to improve animal health services, enhance productivity, and secure rural livelihoods across the country.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idimukhtar Micha, represented by Dr. Mitchell Alao, Director of Animal Health and Reproductive Services, said animal health is central to the success of NLGAS. He noted that alongside advanced breeding techniques such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer, a strong veterinary care system is essential for sustainable growth in meat and milk production.

“These clinics are strategic investments in the future of livestock production. They will ensure farmers have timely access to quality veterinary care,” the Minister stated.

He explained that the uniform design of the clinics guarantees consistent standards and service delivery nationwide. The handover formally transfers ownership, management, and maintenance to the State Government for long-term sustainability.

Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, represented by Dr. Tade Adeniyi, Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, accepted the facility on behalf of the State. He described it as a boost to Ogun’s ongoing efforts to strengthen livestock and animal health delivery.

Hon. Owotomo assured that the State will ensure the centre remains functional through improved disease surveillance, biosecurity, public awareness, and responsive service delivery. He urged veterinary personnel to uphold professionalism and empathy in their work, stressing that animal health is directly linked to public health and food security.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ayo-Ajayi, said the clinic is equipped with modern tools including a hydraulic surgical table, examination table, incubator, steriliser, incinerator, and standby generator.

The Federal Government reaffirmed that State ownership will enhance efficiency and accountability in managing the facilities, while aligning with its broader agenda to transform agriculture and secure the nation’s food systems.

This initiative reflects the Renewed Hope agenda’s focus on building resilient institutions, improving rural infrastructure, and empowering farmers for sustainable economic growth.
