In its bid to deepen the embrace, acceptability, and utilization of Gas amongst Nigerians, the Federal Government has unveiled a Gas Transportation Network Code, which essentially, is a set of rules and guidelines for gas transportation in the country.
At the launch of the event which held on Monday, 10th August, 2020 at the Petroleum Development Training Fund (PTDF) Towers in Abuja, the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva asserted that the execution of the Network Code which is meant to guide the use and operations of the Gas Transportation Network system will go a long way in deepening the domestic gas market while impacting positively on the growth and economic development of the country.
The Minister hinted further that, with the unveiling of the Network Code coupled with other related interventions, there will be an improvement in Gas supply to Power, growth of Gas Based Industries (GBIs) with sustained penetration of the three streams of Gas-domestic LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas).
In his address at the gathering, Director, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Engineer Sarki Auwalu commended President Mohammadu Buhari and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources for conceiving the laudable initiative that will attract investors, and as well accomplish Mr. President’s vision of employment generation coupled with other benefits around the Gas Value Chain.
Present at the event are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Mele Kyari, Director, DPR Engr. Sarki Auwalu, and other stakeholders represented by NGC (Nigerian Gas Company), GasHub and Dangote Fertilizer Ltd.
