The Federal Ministry of Police Affairs has convened a high-level committee meeting to review the allowances of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and address the settlement of outstanding pension arrears, death benefits, health benefits, and other welfare-related entitlements.
The meeting, held at the Ministry in Abuja, was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anuma Ogbonna Nlia, and attended by representatives of the Ministry, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the Permanent Secretary described the exercise as a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of serving officers, retirees, and the families of deceased police personnel.
He stated that the committee was established to critically examine proposals for the upward review of police allowances and evaluate the outstanding liabilities relating to pension arrears, death benefits, health benefits, and other statutory entitlements.
According to Dr. Nlia, the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare, morale, and productivity of police personnel in recognition of their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to maintaining peace, law, and national security.
He emphasized that the timely settlement of outstanding benefits remains critical to sustaining the confidence of serving and retired officers, as well as the families of fallen heroes, in the government’s welfare system.
“The welfare of our police personnel remains a top priority. Prompt payment of their legitimate entitlements and continuous improvement of their conditions of service are essential to boosting morale, enhancing operational effectiveness, and strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.
During the meeting, members undertook a comprehensive review of outstanding benefit obligations and examined proposals for the enhancement of the existing allowance structure for police personnel.
The committee also deliberated extensively on practical measures aimed at facilitating the timely implementation of approved welfare initiatives.
The Ministry of Police Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to implement sustainable policies and programmes that promote the welfare, dignity, and operational efficiency of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration.
