The Federal Government has officially sent forth Miss Nigeria, Queen Tamunosoye Karibi-George, as Nigeria’s official representative to the 73rd Miss World Pageant scheduled to hold on September 5, 2026, in Vietnam, reaffirming its commitment to empowering young women, promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and projecting a positive national image on the global stage.
The colourful Send-Forth Reception, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, traditional rulers, development partners, corporate leaders, former beauty queens, the media, and other distinguished guests in celebration of Nigeria’s ambassador to one of the world’s most prestigious international platforms.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, described Miss Nigeria’s participation as far more than a beauty contest, saying it represents an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s leadership, culture, creativity, intelligence and the limitless potential of Nigerian women before a global audience.
Presenting Queen Tamunosoye Karibi-George to the nation, the Minister said the Federal Government was proud to send her as the country’s cultural Ambassador to a platform that has evolved into a global movement for leadership, social impact and women empowerment.
“When this young woman walks onto that stage, she does not walk alone. She goes as a cultural Ambassador. She carries the story of a nation and the aspirations of millions of Nigerian girls who will look at her and say, ‘That could one day be me.’ That single thought is worth more than any crown.”
The Minister noted that the 2026 edition of Miss World is particularly historic as it commemorates the pageant’s 75th anniversary and will feature representatives from over 130 countries, making it one of the largest global gatherings celebrating purpose-driven young women.
She emphasized that Nigeria’s participation aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly in advancing youth development, women’s leadership, cultural diplomacy and nation branding.
According to her, the Ministry is providing comprehensive institutional support to ensure Miss Nigeria enjoys a smooth, dignified and successful participation throughout the competition.
“We see you, we are proud of you, and we send you forth with the full support and prayers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. From her preparation to her travel and welfare, she will not carry this responsibility alone.”
The Honourable Minister called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to unite in support of Miss Nigeria as she prepares to represent the country on the global stage.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, described the occasion as a proud national moment for Nigerian women, noting that the Ministry was honoured to lead the country’s official support for its representative.
She recalled Nigeria’s rich history in international pageantry and expressed confidence that Queen Tamunosoye Karibi-George would bring honour to the nation.
“Today, Nigerian women have come together to take responsibility for supporting our daughter as she represents this great nation. We are confident that the crown will return to Nigeria. It has happened before, and it will happen again.”
In an emotional address, Miss Nigeria, Queen Tamunosoye Karibi-George, thanked God, the Federal Government, the Ministry, the Miss Nigeria Organisation, her family and supporters for believing in her dream.
She described the opportunity to represent Nigeria as the fulfilment of a lifelong aspiration and pledged to serve as a worthy Ambassador of the country’s culture, resilience and values.
“I am honoured to represent the rich culture, heritage and traditions of Nigeria on the world stage. I promise to make Nigeria proud and, by God’s grace, we shall gather again to celebrate victory.”
President of the Silverbird Group and National Director of Miss World Nigeria, Mr. Guy Murray-Bruce, officially presented the Queen to the Federal Government, describing her as intelligent, compassionate, resilient and purpose-driven.
He commended the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for its unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances at the international competition.
“Miss Tamunosoye Karibi-George represents the very best of Nigeria. She embodies leadership, service, compassion and excellence. We urge every Nigerian to stand behind her as she carries our hopes and aspirations to the world.”
Delivering a goodwill message, Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, encouraged the Queen to inspire humanity through service and leadership.
She reminded her that while winning the crown would be a great achievement, creating lasting impact through advocacy and compassion would remain an even greater legacy.
“You carry the hopes, dreams and aspirations of Nigerians. Let the world see a nation blessed with talent, resilience, innovation and excellence. May your journey be crowned with success.”
In his vote of thanks, Team Leader of Team Queen Soye, Prince Iwefa Aganaba, appreciated the Honourable Minister, the Ministry, partners, supporters and Nigerians for standing behind the country’s representative.
He appealed for sustained prayers and national support as Queen Tamunosoye departs for Vietnam.
“She is not travelling for a vacation. She is going to bring home the Blue Crown. Together, let us continue to stand behind her.”
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic national send-forth as guests pledged their support and offered prayers for Nigeria’s representative, expressing confidence that Queen Tamunosoye Karibi-George would fly the nation’s flag with distinction and make Nigeria proud at the 73rd Miss World Festival in Vietnam.
