Nasarawa State Government To Synergies With Colombian Government On Peace Building Initiative

FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Nasarawa State Government said it is strengthening it tie with the Colombian Government on peace building to prevent violence extremism.

The state Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this while Playing host to Colombian delegation and officials of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), from the Office of the National Security Adviser at the Government house Lafia the Nasarawa state capital.

The visit of the Columbian delegation to Nasarawa state was part of a field mission aimed at sharing experience in reintegration, reconciliation and the inclusion of women in peace building efforts to develop a national approach to preventing violent extremism across the state.

Governor Sule while receiving the delegation, explained that, Nasarawa State was aware of the challenges faced by Colombia in the past and commended the country for overcoming them.
The Governor noted that Nasarawa State stood to benefit from Colombia’s experience and encouraged the visiting team to share experience and lessons that would help deepen peace efforts across the state.

He therefore directed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to take part in the two-day workshop to cascade the knowledge gained to others across the state, in line with the train-the-trainer approach proposed by the visiting team.

The Director, Directorate of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism at the National counter terrorism center, Ambassador Abimbola Wonosikou explained that the field mission was part of Nigeria’s partnership with Colombia under the South-South Cooperation initiative and that Nasarawa State was selected because of its unique security context.

The Colombian delegation leader, Mariano Hernandez, said the team was in Nasarawa State to share and also learn from participants at the workshop as part of the broader South-South cooperation effort.

She appreciated Governor Sule for approving the hosting of the workshop on women in leadership and as partners in peacebuilding, which is designed to empower 80 women affected by various forms of violent extremism in the state.
