FG set to address the menace of Building Collapse In Nigeria

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji has said that the Federal Government is set to address the growing menace of building and bridge collapse across the country through one of its agencies, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI).

The Minister said this during the facility tour of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) Headquarters, today in Abuja.

According to the Minister, repositioning Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) and making it a global research centre is a strong desire of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.

He further stated that NBRRI has substantially implemented Executive Order No. 05 and other essential policies of Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) in Nigeria stressing that IST has placed a significant premium on Executive Order No. 05 to set our Country on viable and sustainable economic growth and rapid transformation.

The Minister urged the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) not to rest on its efforts but strive more towards addressing other critical issues, such as finding solutions to road and building collapse for the desired growth and sustainable economy of the nation.

Nnaji promised to use his good office to solicit the President’s assent to the (NBRRI) Bill to enable the Agency achieve her mandate.

To this end, he commended the Management and staff of the Agency for their efforts towards making the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) a global research centre.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Institute, Prof. Samson Duna said that the institute was created to build capacity and to conduct applied integrated Research and Development (R&D) into the various aspects of Road Building and Engineering Materials sector of the Nigerian economy.

He therefore seeks for the intervention of the Minister to assist in acquiring Institutional Land at the Federal Capital Territory to be used as NBRRI Technology Village for display and utilization of the various R&D outputs.
