First Lady to Partner NGOs in the Fight Against Sexual Abuse and Gender Related Violence

Abia State First Lady and wife of Governor Alex Otti, Mrs Priscilla Otti has assured that her office will partner any available organization to implement programmes that would reduce the prevalence of sexual abuse and gender-based violence in the society.

Mrs Otti stated this at Umuda Isingwu Civic hall, Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA during the Graduation ceremony of students of a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO,- Caritas Nigeria Families Matter and Caregivers Training programme, harped on the need for education and more sensitization about the vulnerable in the society, gender education and promotion of family values.

The Wife of the Abia Governor disclosed that the present administration is committed to promote youth development, protection of child rights and women empowerment. She thanked the Caritas Nigeria- the NGO that organised the Training for the people of Umuda Isingwu and promised to transmit their requests to Governor Alex Otti.

In his speech, the Secretary General of Umuda Isingwu Welfare Union, Apostle Chuks Alozie, said that the training program was intended to reduce violation of girl child and increase the understanding of parents, especially mothers on how to train their children to be responsible particularly before they attain teenage.

He stated that their invitation of the First Lady was because of her position as the mother of the state, and as the issue is related to the activities of her office.

In her remarks, the Caritas Nigeria Orphan and Vulnerable Children and Gender Education Protection Technical Officer, Mrs Naioma Thompson, said that the Training program carried out in Umuda Isingwu is one out of many programmes they have done in various communities to help educate the public about the need to salvage the younger generation from the menace of abuses and save the society from inherent dangers associated with sexual abuses and gender based violence.

Responding on behalf of the Graduands, Elder Mrs Rose Alozie expressed happiness over the Training, pointing out that the knowledge they gained would help them make meaningful contribution towards raising responsible future leaders.

The event featured Presentation of Certificates to the Graduands by Caritas Nigeria and a special Award of Honour to the Wife of the Governor by the community.

The event was well attended by Dignitaries and Distinguished Personalities from all walks of life.
