The Federal Government has approved the appointment of Prof. Hadiza Usman as Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Nguru, Yobe State, for an initial term of four (4) years with effect from 17th November, 2022.

The approval was conveyed in a letter signed by the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Hon. Joseph Ekumankama who presented it to her on December 14, 2022 at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Abuja.

The Minister of State for Health, while presenting the letter of appointment, congratulated her for her contributions to service, prior to her appointment. He went further to urge the Medical Director to see her appointment as the will of God and not just her effort as the best candidate. He asked her to use this opportunity, to build relationships especially with those who contested for the position with her but lost. “You should draw them to work with you, work as a team for the good of the hospital; some of them might have excellent ideas that will help move the hospital to greater heights. The change you need at the Centre might come from other people, so please run an all-inclusive leadership. “

Hon. Ekumankama admonished her to work harmoniously with the Unions at the Centre so that they do not disrupt the activities or programmes of the hospital. “Pay their dues and welfare when necessary but be firm when they are outrageous demands.” Ensure that you keep to the law of the Appropriation Act. “When it comes to contract execution and overseeing them; I will not like when I visit your hospital, and hear things like it is not under my supervision. As the Medical Director of the hospital, regardless of whether the contract was awarded by the Ministry of Health, an Intervention Fund Project, or by the National Assembly as a Constituency project, if you fail to supervise it properly, you have failed in your responsibility. I will hold you responsible because such projects are directly under your supervision, you are the first line of supervision and the project is for the benefits of the hospital and the citizenry.”
