
The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with key national institutions to accelerate science, technology and innovation (STI) for sustainable national development.
The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, stated this while receiving the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Jos, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
The Minister emphasized that evidence-based policymaking, research and strategic foresight are critical to achieving the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He expressed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with NIPSS in developing innovative, technology-driven solutions that will enhance national productivity, industrial growth and economic diversification.
Dr. Udeh noted that the Ministry will leverage NIPSS’ wealth of expertise in policy research, strategic planning and capacity development to strengthen policy formulation and implement programmes that align with Nigeria’s national development priorities.
He further stressed the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders across the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) ecosystem, noting that sustained partnerships are essential for driving technological advancement, accelerating innovation and transforming the nation’s economy.
The Minister acknowledged NIPSS as Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank and expressed confidence that closer collaboration between both institutions would provide practical, evidence-based solutions to national challenges.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, mni, described the visit as timely and significant, considering NIPSS’ pivotal role in providing intellectual leadership and shaping strategic national policies.
He stated that the Ministry looks forward to deepen collaboration with the Institute in the areas of policy research, capacity building, strategic foresight and the development of evidence-based solutions that will strengthen Nigeria’s Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem.
Earlier, the Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, commended the Ministry for its commitment to positioning science, technology and innovation as key drivers of national development. He reaffirmed the Institute’s readiness to partner with FMIST in advancing strategic policies and programmes that promote sustainable development, national competitiveness and a robust STI ecosystem.
Both parties agreed to strengthen institutional collaboration through joint initiatives that will support policy development, innovation, research and capacity building for Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.
