Gaidam appreciates UK Support on Security, Governance and Economic

The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator, Ibrahim Gaidam has appreciated the United Kingdom government for the support and collaboration extended to Nigeria in various areas, including security, governance, and economic cooperation.

The Minister said this during a courtesy visit by the British High Commissioner and his team led by the High Commissioner Richard Montgomery to the Headquarters of the Ministry in Abuja.

Gaidam stated that the United Kingdom has consistently been a champion of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law and the commitment to these principles serves as an inspiration to many nations around the world, including Nigeria.

In his words. “Your Excellency, the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom is deeply rooted in historical ties and shared values. Our nations have long been partners in progress, collaborating on various fronts to promote peace, security, and economic development. Today, as we witness your esteemed presence, we are reminded of the significance of our bilateral relations and the opportunities that lie before us”.
The Minister expressed his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our nation and its people adding that the visit is a testament to the importance both our nations place on combating transnational crimes, terrorism, and other security challenges.

“We recognize the expertise and experience of the United Kingdom in these fields and eagerly look forward to discussions that will further enhance our cooperation. We express our sincere gratitude for taking the time to visit and engage with us. Your presence and those of your entourage here underscore the deepening relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and the commitment to further strengthen our ties” The Minister reiterated.

He pointed out that the discussions held will yield fruitful outcomes and pave the way for greater collaboration in addressing shared challenges. Gaidam added that Nigeria and the United Kingdom can forge a path towards a safer, more secure future for our nations and the people.

Earlier, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, High Commissioner Richard Montgomery stated that the commission values their relationship with the Ministry and a number of other law enforcement agencies across the federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said both countries need to harness common knowledge in the system and strengthen the relationship and expressed his respect for Nigeria police working at the community levels and front lines despite the difficult circumstances. It is a tough job and so we need to give people who are doing well that tribute. Montgomery stressed.

According to him, “We are generally standing ready to work closely with the current administration. We can see some bold reforms happening in the economy, we see some bold leadership in the region through ECOWAS and we see the experienced ministerial team in place. We feel we can work across a number of sectors”.
