………….…As FG Takes Over State-Owned General Hospital Kumo, Converts It to FMC.
FIC Report (Gombe State) – In a major healthcare milestone, Gombe State has secured a new Federal Medical Center (FMC) as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCON, has approved the takeover and conversion of the newly built Kumo General Hospital into a federal tertiary healthcare facility.
The federal takeover follows a formal appeal by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, aimed at enhancing healthcare access for residents of Gombe South and Central Senatorial Districts as well as neighboring states.
The decision is also expected to decongest the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, improving medical service delivery across the region.
The Kumo General Hospital was rebuilt and modernized under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration, as part of a strategic effort to strengthen healthcare services across the state. It is one of the three newly constructed hospitals—one in each senatorial zone—designed to expand access to quality healthcare.
The facility, now upgraded to international standards, is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, making its conversion to a Federal Medical Center seamless and well-suited for tertiary medical services.
The people and government of Gombe State have expressed deep appreciation for this landmark development, pledging continued support for President Tinubu’s administration in fostering impactful healthcare reforms.
Reacting to the development, Adamu Abubakar Kumo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, described the upgrade as a historic achievement for Kumo, the headquarters of Akko Local Government Area.
“This is a dream come true. For years, our town struggled with dilapidated healthcare infrastructure, but under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership, we now have a Federal Medical Center right in our community. This facility will not only serve Gombe State but will also benefit the entire North-East region, including Adamawa and Taraba States,” he said.
The Federal Medical Center, Kumo, is expected to commence full operations soon, providing advanced medical care, specialist consultations, and improved healthcare services to thousands of residents across the region.
