Government reassures it’s determination to restructure the State’s Educational System

Abia State Deputy Governor, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu has reassured Teachers in the State of Govt’s determination to restructure the State’s educational system and prioritize their welfare for optimal output.

Chief Emetu who gave the assurance when a delegation of the Abia State Wing of the Nigerian Union Of Teachers paid him a courtesy visit at Govt House, Umuahia noted that with teachers adequately taken care of, they will be able to impact positively on the children and students and enable them be at par with their counterparts across the Nation.

The Deputy Governor described the Dr Alex Otti’s led administration as a people friendly Govt that desires positive change in the State and disclosed that Govt will not only hand over a vibrant school to their original owners, but will oversee and monitor activities of the handed over schools.

He, however, warned that Government will not welcome any form of division among teachers in the State and promised to look into ways of addressing all their internal problems, while appreciating their various sacrifices and support that ensured the overwhelming victory of Labour Party at the polls.

In his address, the Chairman, Abia State Wing of NUT, Comrade Friday Madu who said they came to congratulate him on their electoral victory at the polls implored Govt to wade into the unwholesome and nefarious attitude of some teachers and splinter groups that are not in tandem with the good image of the present administration.

Also speaking, the Deputy National President of NUT, Comrade Kizito Kalu solicits the implementation of the Teacher’s Enhancement Allowances to both primary and secondary schools, elongation of tenure of service to 45 and 65 years for teachers as well as address the issues of splinter groups, check off dues and welfare of teachers among others.

The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Chinedu Ekeke, Special Advisers and Assistants were present during the visit.
