The remains of the immediate past State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Late Sir Johnson Okebaram Onuigbo, popularly called AKINBOARD has been laid to rest in his hometown, Umuobasi Ugba, Ibeku Umuahia North LGA.
Speaking at the funeral held at Ugba Primary School, Umuobasi Ugba-Ibeku Umuahia, Abia State, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu condoled with the bereaved family and urged them not to sorrow as people without hope.
He described late Sir Onuigbo as one who was fearless and courageous but blended his bravity with loyalty Governor Ikpeazu said this year 2020 is a year of sober reflection and called on all to reflect on their lives as they would give the account of their lives to God.
Speaking earlier, the Bishop Diocese of Umuahia, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi called on all to repent and live good lives that please God. He took his text from Ephesians 5:15-17 and spoke on the topic “Do Not Be Foolish.”
He described Late Sir Onuigbo as a sincere and straight forward person, who touched lives during his lifetime. The Rt. Rev Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese had also described death as inevitable and admonished the living to be ready for the judgment day, saying that what is more important to God is the soul of man.
The Bishop reiterated during the commendation service of the late former PDP Chairman Abia State chapter, Sir Johnson Okebaram Onuigbo, Bishop Ibeabuchi reminded the congregation that, “Now is the time to amend our relationship with God, and the question is how will I face my saviour – is it as a sinner or friend?
He pointed out that the demise of Sir Onuigbo was not only a loss to Onuigbo’s family but to the Church, state, community and among all who loved and admired him.
Preaching a Commendation Service Sermon at Christ the King Church Anglican Communion, Ugba, Umuahia North L.G.A, of Abia State, Ven. Godswill Emeruwa, Archdeacon, Afara-Ibeku West described Jesus Christ as an antidote to death and hope for resurrection and reminded all the need to live a transparent life devoid of wickedness to enable them inherit eternal rest in God’s Kingdom.
He pointed out that he is not unmindful of the traumatic experience the Choristers, Widows, Youths, and the entire CKC Ugba is passing through over the demise of their beloved father and brother, and urged them to take heart as God alone Has the control over death.
The Homilist who took his references from the Bible book of John 11:22-26 and Matthew 13:50, enjoined the well-to-do in the society to emulate the sterling attributes of the deceased and affect positively the lives of the indigent and vulnerable group within their environment.
His words, “Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life, believe in him and you will have eternal life. Do not cry like those without hope, Sir Onuigbo is fast asleep, he will wake up at the resurrection morning.
“There is hope for resurrection to those who die in Christ. So we should strive to live the life of Christ, use our wealth to affect the lives of the downtrodden. The legacies left by Sir Onuigbo is glaring and the testimonies abound”
Ven. Emeruwa prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss as well as grant the deceased eternal rest.
In a funeral oration read by the first son of the family, Mr. Tochukwu Onuigbo, the family described their father as an embodiment of peace, love, compassion, integrity and humility who served the church and society in various capacities. He said their father lived a good life and left enduring legacies for which he will eternally be remembered, adding that they would miss him dearly.
Late Sir Johnson Okebaram Onuigbo was aged 66 years and survived by his wife, lady Uzoamaka Onuigbo, four children, four grand children and a host of other relations.
The remains was taken to the Umuahia North Local Government Council Headquarters and the PDP Party Secretariat at Finbarrs Road, Umuahia.
The event attracted the Deputy Governor and wife, Members of the National Assembly, Speaker of the State House of Assembly and his colleagues, PDP National Organizing Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), SSG, Commissioners, T. C Chairmen, other top government officials, Party faithfuls, Members of the Clergy, Traditional Rulers among other Dignitaries.
