Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has formally sworn in two new Commissioners and a new Transition Committee Chairman for Umunneochi LGA with a charge to them to see their new positions as calls to duty and service to God and Ndi Abia.
The Governor directed the new Commissioner for Transport, Chief Godswil Nwanoruo to evolve a new Transport Policy for the State and ensure sanity in the transport sector by immediately closing all illegal Motor Parks in Aba and Umuahia.
Governor Ikpeazu who also expressed concern on the mode of operation of tricyclists in the state, directed the new Commissioner for Transport to designate roads where Tricyclists can operate as they have continued to cause nuisance on major roads across the State.
The State Chief Executive equally described as unacceptable a situation where broken down vehicles are allowed to remain on the road for more than two days before they are towed away thereby causing traffic jam.
Governor Ikpeazu urged the Transport Ministry to deploy modern technology in the management of traffic on major roads in the state and ensure Abians get to their destination at all times without hitches.
He charged the new Commissioner to liase with all Parastatals under the Ministry to achieve solid results.
The Governor also mandated the new Commissioner for Environment, Mr Anthony Nwamuo to consolidate existing templates in the Ministry and work towards the full realization of all NEWMAP Project including Ngwa,Obohia,Ohanku and all adjoining roads along Ndiegoro among others, pointing out that the State Government has paid its counterpart funding as well as fulfilled all conditions of World Bank for the project.
He also urged the Ministry of Environment to look into the issue of perennial flooding as Abia has been identified as one of the states that may likely come under the scourge of flooding and embark on massive desilting of drainages and the introduction of erosion control strategies in our school curriculum.
Governor Ikpeazu who congratulated the new Appointees on their new positions, charged the TC Chairman Umunneochi LGA Dr Eze Chikamnayo to look inwards and identify with those issues capable of growing the economy of the Local government as well as ensure maximum security by working closely with Stakeholders and Youths in the area.
In their separate responses , the Commissioner for Transport, Chief Godswil Nwanoruo and the TC Chairman Umunneochi LGA, Dr Eze Chikamnayo promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by bringing to fruition the policies and programmes of the State Government.
The oaths of office and allegiance were administered on the new Appointees by the Solicitor General, Barr.Uzoamaka Ikonne. Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu , former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, State Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, Members of the State Executive Council, State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon Allwell Asiforo Okere, were amongst other top government functionaries who witnessed the event which held at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House Umuahia.
