Governor Otti directs payment of April Salary to Abia Workers and Pension to Retirees

Governor Alex Otti has directed the Account General of the State to pay the arrears of April, 2023 salary for verified Abia workers this week and June pension for the retirees next week.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing the Press at the Government House, Umuahia on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held. He said that the Council implored the authorities in the Local Government Service Commission and the Judiciary Service Commission to cooperate with the Verification Committee to ensure speedy conclusion of the exercise so that the workers at the Local Government level, Teachers and Judiciary Staff would be paid as their counterparts.

He explained that as soon as the verification exercise in both the Local Government system and Civil Service is completed, workers in the State would be brought to the same page in salary and pension payments.

The Commissioner said the State Executive Council resolved to enforce the instant law on building, adding that, henceforth, all buildings must be approved before erection as government would not hesitate to demolish any structure that do not meet standards. According to him, Government is committed to ensuring orderliness in the way buildings are erected and warned that the era of building without approval or acquiring approval illegally was over.

The State Information Boss announced that the government has earmarked 17 schools , one each from the 17 LGAs for reconstruction, adding that work in the schools would commence soon as they would be ready before the administration clocks 100 days in office. According to him, a sporting legend and former Super Eagles’ Star, Mr. Kanu Nwankwo has been appointed to supervise Enyimba Football Club to strengthen the Team and make it win more laureis for the State while Pastor Dike Nwankwo has been appointed to head the Abia Orientation Agency to reduce the disconnect between Abians and the government as well as build trust among the people.

The Commissioner, who was flanked by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna assured that the Dr. Alex Otti’s administration is committed to fulfilling his campaign promises including defraying all the arrears of salaries and pensions owed Abia workers.
