Governor Yusuf Unveils N549 Billion “Budget of Hope” for Kano State, Prioritizes Education and Human Capital Development

FIC Report (Kano State) Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented a proposed budget of N549.16 billion for Kano State’s 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly on Friday, November 8, 2024. Dubbed the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” this budget marks an increase of N111.8 billion from the approved budget of 2024, emphasizing investment in education, health, and infrastructure.

The proposed budget allocates 57 percent to capital expenditure and 43 percent to recurrent expenses. Governor Yusuf announced that education would retain its prominence, claiming the largest share at 31 percent (N168.5 billion), fulfilling his administration’s promise to prioritize educational advancement. Other key allocations include 17 percent for Government Institutes (N98.2 billion), 16 percent for Health (N90 billion), and 12 percent for Infrastructure Development (N70.6 billion). Additional allocations cover Security and Emergency Services (4 percent), Agriculture (3.8 percent), Environment and Sanitation (2.8 percent), and Transportation (2 percent).

Governor Yusuf highlighted that the budget aims to propel Kano towards greater economic self-reliance, reduce dependency on grants, and support the aspirations of the people. He pledged the administration’s commitment to fully implementing the budget’s provisions to foster economic growth.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, commended the Governor’s initiative and assured the budget’s swift passage. He also urged Ministries, Agencies, and Parastatals to prepare for budget defense sessions. He took the occasion to report that the Assembly has recently passed 11 amendment bills into law and over 200 motions.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, affirmed that education’s prioritization under the current administration continues to fulfill campaign promises from 2024 to 2025.
