………….FG To Establish Federal School Of Social Work In Six Geo-Political Zones.
The Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda has commissioned a 100KVA Transformer procured by the Ministry for the Federal School of Social Works Emene, Enugu State.
The Minister stated that the Ministry is also making efforts to establish more Schools of Social Work and other similar Institutions in the Six Geo-Political Zones of the country with the approval of the Federal Executive Council.
The Minister was represented by the Director, General Services of the Ministry at the event on Tuesday 10th December 2024.
Going down the memory lane, Yilwatda stated that the School was established on March 15, 1983 to play a leading role in the implementation of Decree N0. 12 of 1974, to aid the development of the middle-level manpower for the Social Development Sector.
According to the Minister “The objectives of establishing the school include Training of serving officers in the social work profession, Training of people interested in social work, Enhancing the professional status of social work and Serving as a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences among social work practitioners through short-term refresher courses. The course content which includes Youth Work, Correctional Care Services, Sociology, Family Education, Contemporary Social Problems, Comparative Studies in Social Development among others have been fashioned to enable the production of sound and quality Social Workers to meet the challenges of today’s social problems in our society”.
Speaking further, the Minister noted that the course content which comprise Youth Work, Correctional Care Services, Sociology, Family Education, Contemporary Social Problems and Comparative Studies in Social Development have been fashioned to enable the production of sound and quality Social Workers to meet the challenges of today’s social problems in our society.
The Minister however assured the school that all necessary steps will be put in place to provide relevant structures in the school.
He said the Ministry is determined to provide a conducive physical and social environment for learning and increase intake into the school.
Reiterating the Ministry’s commitment, the Minister said that they will continue to improve training facilities and efforts are presently being intensified to recruit and appoint more academic staff for the school through the appropriate Government establishments so that the best can be achieved. He urged all present to propagate the activities of the school everywhere for people to know the importance of Social Work which will benefit them both within and outside the country.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Enugu State, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, thanked the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for providing the 100KVA Transformer for the Federal School of Social Work, Emene and said that the Transformer will not only benefit the school, but also the neighboring community.
In his goodwill message, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Enugu State, Dr. Barr. Ndubueze Mbah, represented by the Area Lead Evaluator, Enugu East (Ujodo), Mrs. Ifeoma Beatrice OnuIgbo appreciated the Ministry for the supply of the Transformer to the FSSWE, Enugu and thanked the Enugu State Government and the Management of the school for their contributions towards the building of the school.
In his welcome address, the Overseeing Provost of the School Mr. Chris Ajibola thanked the Honourable Minister, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Honourable Minister of State, Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abel O. Enitan Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for the Transformer which he said the school has long been longing for.
Goodwill messages were also given by Engr. Osita Obiukwu of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Principal Vocational Rehabilitation Center, Mr. Eze Jude Chuka.
Others present at the event include the Desk Officer of the School, Assistant Director, Social Development in the Ministry, Mr. Akin Alesinloye, Acting Registrar of the Federal school of Social Work, Emene, Enugu, Mrs. Nriji Chinyere, other dignitaries and students of the school.
