Interior Ministry Partners Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation

Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu, has agreed to partner in order to reduce poverty in Nigeria, to achieve that, an inter-ministerial Committee has been set up, between the two Ministries.

Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo wonder why agencies of government with semblance in mandates cannot work together rather each prefers to work in silos, which bears no maximum result.

He expound that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had given them a matching order that, they must look in ward for partnership amongst the ministries to achieved the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the President.

The revelation for the partnership was made recently when the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and poverty alleviation Dr. Betta Edu visited the Ministry on a courtesy call in his office, Abuja. Dr. Tunji-Ojo, appreciated the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister for broadening the mandate of her ministry to cover vulnerable ex-  services men, under the supervision of the ministry, as well as inmates of Correctional facilities.

While responding on the excitement of Nigerians in diaspora, as shared by the visiting Minister, Dr. Tunji-Ojo, reiterated that Nigerians must not be relegated from being a citizen of their country, any Nigeria that can afford the travel document must be granted in a good time.

Earlier, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu, has applauded her host for taking his assignment head-on, stating that her Ministry’s mandate has been expanded to cover more Nigerians, that about 16 million Nigeria are displaced in IDP camps which was largely as a result of insecurity and humanitarian crisis.

Dr. Edu, added that, since Interior Ministry manages internal security, she find its worthy to work together to address the crisis. She also propose working with NSCDC for generation of security intelligence and provision of soft loan families of the diseased of ex-service men that died and left with nobody to cater for them.

She added that Federal Fire Service an agency that response to disaster is equally where the partnership would strive to appropriately to mitigate any impending crisis.

Dignitaries in attendance are the Permanent Secretary of Interior, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, Directors in the Ministry, CGs, of Agencies, DG NAPTIP, Directors of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry and aids.
