FIC Report (Ogun State) – The Ogun State Government on Thursday joined workers across the state to commemorate the 2026 International Workers’ Day, commending their dedication to the growth of the state and restating its commitment to improving their welfare.
In a goodwill message to the workforce, the government lauded employees in both public and private sectors for their role in sustaining the state’s economy.
“Our dear workers across Ogun State, on this International Workers’ Day, we celebrate your strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the growth of our state. Every sector you serve in reflects your dedication, and it is your daily effort that continues to drive our progress and sustain our economy,” the statement read.
It added: “We recognise the challenges you face and deeply appreciate your perseverance. As a government, we remain committed to creating more opportunities, strengthening our economy, and ensuring that your hard work is met with dignity, support, and reward. Together, we will keep building a state where labour translates to prosperity and where every worker can thrive. Happy International Workers’ Day.”
The celebration at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, was marked by a colourful march past, cultural displays, and awards to outstanding workers.
While expressing appreciation for the government’s efforts so far, organised labour used the occasion to seek continuous engagement on workers’ welfare.
Speaking on behalf of workers, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Hameed Ademola – Benco, commended the government for implementing the new national minimum wage and ensuring regular salary payment. He noted that ongoing collaboration would further address issues such as timely remittance of deductions, pension matters, and support for workers amid the current economic realities.
“We appreciate the government’s worker-friendly disposition. We believe that through sustained dialogue, we will achieve more for the benefit of workers and the state at large,” the NLC Chairman said. He pledged the continued support of labour to government policies aimed at economic growth and industrial harmony.
The Trade Union Congress, TUC, also applauded the administration’s open-door policy and expressed optimism that existing channels of engagement would yield more positive outcomes for the workforce.
Responding, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, who represented the state government, said the administration remains resolute in its commitment to workers’ welfare.
“Ogun is, and will continue to be, a worker-friendly state. We have demonstrated this through the implementation of the new wage, promotion of workers, and payment of salaries as and when due. On other issues raised by labour, we are engaging and will continue to engage our brothers and sisters in the unions to find workable solutions within available resources,” he said.
He assured that the government would not relent in creating a conducive environment for workers to thrive, noting that a motivated workforce is critical to achieving the administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda.
The event ended with the presentation of awards to outstanding civil servants, teachers, and health workers drawn from across the state.
