Jubilation as FG commissions the Erosion Control and Rehabilitation Works in Toro Communities

The people of Rimi Zayam, Polchi and Gwalfadako communities in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State trooped out in their numbers in jubilation to celebrate the commissioning and handover projects executed by the Ecological Project Office. The project comprised six point four kilometre Rimi Zayam road, forty five-metre Polchi, thirty-metre Gwalfadako Bridges, culverts, stone pitching and concrete drain.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Hon. Umar Muda Lawal, Honourable member representing Toro Constituency assured that the project would not only better the safety and wellbeing of the benefitting communities and citizens of the surrounding communities but would also improve their standard of living, thereby provide and boost opportunities for economic activities within the Rimi Zayam, toro axis.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensure that no part of the country would suffer neglect owing to its geographical location or political inclination.Bridge construction at Toro Communities

He enjoined the benefitting communities to take ownership of the projects, jealously guard, maintain and protects them.

In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ecological Fund Office (EFO), Dr. Habila Lawal, represented by Mr. Abubakar Takuma, Director in Pollution Control Department, Ecological Project Office, pointed out that the project was initiated through a request for an urgent intervention forwarded by Hon. Umar Muda Lawal to arrest the continuous flooding of the river bank and the erosion of the bridge embankment along Rimi Zayam, Polchi and Gwalfadako river Bridges in Toro.

She revealed that the project would serve the dual purpose of enabling the host community take over and exercise ownership as well as ensure its maintenance and sustainability, thereby avoid waste.

Dr. Habiba Lawal restated EPO’s determination to ensure that no project is abandoned under the present dispensation.

In his goodwill message, the All Peoples Congress Chairman Toro LGA, Alhaji Ismaila Yusuf Nabordo commended the Federal Government and appreciates EPO for coming to their rescue as the project will no doubt address transportation challenges and boost economic activities in the area.

The District Head of Toro, Alhaji Umar Adamu Waziri represented by the village Head of Tulai, Alhaji Jaafar Idris Ibrahim appreciated the Federal Government, President Muhammadu Buhari, EPO and Member Representing the Constituency and assured them of the community’s readiness to take ownership of the projects for the development of the Local Government Area.

Present at the event were the village head of Yaltin, Alhaji Sanusi H. Ibrahim, Palace Chiefs, Senior Officers from EPO, among other dignitaries.
