FIC REPORT (KANO STATE) – 250 newly trained police officers were deployed to border Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve rapid response to emergencies by Kano State Police Command.
The officers were deployed after completing a one-month intensive combat and weapon-handling course conducted at the No.9 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Hotoro, and No. 52 PMF, Challawa, Kano.
The passing-out ceremony, held at the Parade Ground of No. 9 PMF, Hotoro, was attended by senior police officers and other stakeholders.
While Speaking, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the deployment was in line with the operational priorities of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at increasing police presence in frontline communities.
He said the officers would serve as a first line of defence in the border areas, with particular responsibility for strengthening security and improving response to distress calls.
The Commissioner urged the officers to remain vigilant, disciplined and professional, while exercising firmness and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
He also reminded them to respect the fundamental rights of citizens and ensure that the use of firearms remained guided by the rule of law.
During the training, the officers received instruction in weapon handling, marksmanship, combat tactics, tactical manoeuvres and rifle stripping and assembly. They were also exposed to Human Rights, Use of Force and Firearms, Public Relations, Intelligence-Led Policing, IED recognition and response, and Community-Based Policing.
The Commanding Officer of No. 9 PMF, ACP Afeez Oyekan, said the training was designed to improve the officers’ operational readiness, professionalism and ability to deliver effective and people-oriented policing.
Adding that the initiative reflected the Command’s commitment to continuous capacity building and adherence to modern policing standards.
CP Bakori further announced that similar in-house refresher programmes would be sustained to ensure that police personnel remain adequately equipped to perform their duties effectively and safely.
He commended the instructors, training team and officers for their commitment, while appreciating the Kano State Government and residents for their continued support and partnership with the police.
The Commissioner subsequently declared the training officially closed and directed the 250 officers to proceed to their respective new assignments.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and strengthening collaboration with communities to promote peace and security across the state.
