The Minister of Science and Technology, Abdu Bulama (Dr) has called on members of the Chemical Society of Nigeria to link up with research institutes across the nation and steadfastly support government’s effort at strengthening Science and Technology in the nation.
The Minister, who said this during a courtesy call by the Chemical Society of Nigeria to his office in Abuja noted that the place of a chemist in national development is strategic and crucial. According to him, chemistry is paramount in the activities of most agencies and affects all aspects of national life. He further revealed that the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President cannot be realised without the instrumentality of science and technology.
Abdu Bulama Minister urged the experts in chemical technology to bring their innovations to bear on government’s programmes that are focused on the common good of the general populace. He intensified that considering the positive role which chemists play in physical science, there is need to promote unity among the members of the society for the growth of science in the country. He also avowed preparedness to work together with the rest of the members of the society to promote Science, Technology and Innovation.
In his remark, the head of the delegation, Henry O. Egharevba (Dr.) of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) said that they were in the Ministry to felicitate with the Minister over his well deserved appointment by Mr. President. He added that their coming was to inform him about the activities and programmes scheduled for 2015.
Henry Egharevba listed the programmes to include: hosting of the Federation of African Chemical Societies International Conference in Abuja in September 2015; hosting of the American Chemical Society Festival of Chemistry in Abuja in September 2015; the National Essay Competition, Chemistry Quiz Competition and Award/ Dinner Night and the establishment of a functional secretariat as well as the Chemical Societies of Nigeria Abuja Newsletter.
He further noted that the society has solicited for the equipping of the office space to make it a functional secretariat; adding that it has acquired a bus for the Chapter Secretariat to help in the actualization of the above programmes.
