FIC Report (Edo State) – The Executive Director, National Film and Video Censors Board [NFVCB] Alhaji Adedayo Thomas has led a delegation to the public burning of confiscated illicit, unwholesome and unapproved movies and video works in Benin City.
The occasion, which took place at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Benin City attracted representatives of the office of the Commissioner of Police, Benin city; members of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps [NSCDC], Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Fire Service, and Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, among others.
Alhaji Adedayo Thomas explained to the audience that the National Film and Video Censors Board is an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.
He added that the agency is saddled with the responsibility to regulate the film industry in Nigeria; to censor films and video works; to regulate the importation and exportation of movies amidst other functions.
Alhaji Thomas noted with interest that the Board also provides policy advisory services to the Federal and State governments in video and film matters. This, according to him, is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan [ERGP], a Medium-Term Plan for 2017-2020, which was developed at the outset of this regime for the purpose of restoring economic growth.
