NCPWD Parleys Information Ministry To Develop An Inclusive Communication Strategy On Disability Rights Advocacy

With the provisions of part 1, section 2 of the Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities 2018 (Prohibition) Act, the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities has formed a synergy with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to design a communication strategy that will deliver mass awareness in all disability programmes.

The committee members were inaugurated today 29th July, 2024 at the office of the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Dr. James David Lalu.

Addressing the members of the Disability Rights Advocacy, the Executive Secretary, Dr. James David Lalu who was represented by the Director, Compliance and Enforcement NCPWD, Barrister Ikem Uchegbulam appreciated the Hon. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Mohammed Idris Malagi for the timely nomination of staff to form the task team.

The ES seized the platform to urge the team to be diligent in the task ahead in order to achieve the desirable positions for Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria.

“Good leaders make efforts while others neglect their responsibilities and blame it on the society” he said.

According to him, many people in Nigeria are yet to come to terms with the fact that Disability Rights should be embraced by everyone.

The chairman of the Committee from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Director of Protocols, office of the Hon. Minister of Information, Dr. Sulaiman in his remarks, pledged total support towards the Advocacy Agenda and with a plan to develop the framework for the success of the scheme.

“On behalf of the Honorable Minister, I want to assure you all that we will come up with a strategic implementation and monitoring template that will facilitate accessibility in all spheres”, he added.

The meeting also had in attendance, Head of Strategic Innovation, NCPWD, Hajiya Fatima Doki and Farooq Gagarawa of the New Media, NCPWD.
