The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has said that Nigeria and Brazil will collaborate to strengthen bio-technology cooperation to boast Nigerian’s cotton system for sustainability, traceability and productivity to aid economic growth.
Nnaji made this statement during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil recently and signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and Brazil on Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) according to Uche is to focus on cotton partnership with Brazil, technological transfer to strengthen biotechnology cooperation.
He said that Nigeria will leverage on Brazil’s experience in crop circle optimization, pest resistant, seed performance trails and also share Brazilian Cotton Association(ABRAPA) research data with Nigerian institutions such as National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), National Space Research and Development Agency(NASRDA) and Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) for adaption and innovation in the country.
According to Nnaji, the collaboration is fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, particularly in areas of food security, economic growth, job creation and energy transition
