FIC Report (Abia State) – The Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR has promised to continue with the culture of rewarding excellence in form of automatic employment into the state civil service, scholarships, business grants, cash rewards and recommendation from his office to those who stand out in their places of primary assignment.
Alex Otti who was represented by his Deputy Engr Ikechukwu Emetu made this known in his speech delivered at the opening/swearing in ceremony of the 2024 Batch “C” Stream II Corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Umunna, Bende LGA on Friday 24th January, 2025.
He urged them to receive all instructions and training that will be coming their way with open mind and with willingness to acquire new knowledge that will help them contribute meaningfully to the development of the State.
In his words “May I remind you at this juncture that your posting to Abia state is not by accident, I therefore urge you not to seek for relocation but rather join hands with my administration to build the new Abia State of our dream.
Otti assured the Corps members that their security in every part of the state is assured as he has directed security agencies to make sure their eyes and ears are never removed from their places of residence and gathering.
He also informed them informed them that with regards to their welfare his office is working hand in hand with the ministry of sports and youth development and other agencies to identify how often the state government can intervene and also implored public and private employers of labour and establishments in the state to motivate them properly by giving them good allowance.
The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Sport and youth Development and also doubling as Chairman NYSC state governing board, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba in his address reminded the corps members that the oath of allegiance that they are about to take is meant is meant to commit them to render selfless service to Abia state and by extension Nigeria.
He revealed that the State Government under Alex Otti places high premium on hard work and excellence and is in the habit rewarding as well as recognizing corps members who have contributed to the development of the state and urged them to render selfless invaluable service to their host communities.
Earlier in her speech the State Coordinator of NYSC Abia, BARR Mrs Gladys Adama pointed out that the orientation course is the first cardinal of the scheme designed to essentially prepare corps members for the task of nation building and attested that the corps members so far has demonstrated a high sense of discipline ,dedication and willingness to learn and charged them to take their training and activities very serious.
She expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti for his many kind gestures which include the release of funds to the ministry of lands and housing for the rehabilitation of the orientation camp in a bid to make it look like one of the best in the country, the release of a 100KVA generator for the NYSC camp, installation of forty six solar powered street light in the camp and many more welfare packages.
The event featured inspection of the corps parade by the Deputy Governor and had in attendance notable individuals like the Chief Justice of Abia State, Mayor of Bende, Heads of Security Agencies etc.
