President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged full support to the IBB Golf Club Abuja to promote it to the level where it will be capable of contributing to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The President who was represented by the Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh gave the hint Saturday during the Ceremonial Tee Off of Dr. Olabanjo Obaleye Captain’s Cup Golf Tournament at IBB Golf Club in Abuja.

The President noted that his unwavering passion for sports development led to first, the creation of ministry of sports development and second, his continued support to the ministry.

He pointed out that in its bid to take sports development to the desired level, the federal government was promoting full implementation of the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP), which according to him seeks to promote sports beyond leisure and entertainment, but as well take it a level of business enterprise capable of contributing to Nigeria’s GDP.

President Tinubu implored all sports men and women not to lose sight of the import of the event in postering national unity and cohesion as well as promotion of our talents.

He reeled out his administration’s plan to, through ministry of sports development, pioneer the creation of national fitness day aimed at balancing our sporting activities, competitions and other similar exercises with physical mental fitness. The policy will entail enthroning one day in a year to celebrate our sports men and women and to as well highlight the importance of physical fitness in our daily life.

He congratulated membership of the Club for upholding, continuing and further expanding the tradition of the Club and advised that the Club should come up with a proposal for partnership with the federal government with the assurance that it will receive the desired attention.

Earlier in his remarks, the Captain of the team called on the federal government to give much attention and support to Golf as a sporting activity, insisting that it has a lot to offer economically to the government and the youths.
