The Permanent Secretary, Industry, Trade and Investment Mr. Edet Sunday Akpan has called on the highest policy advisory body and all stakeholders in the Industry Trade and Investment sector to proffer policies that can transform the nation’s economy.
Mr. Akpan threw this challenge while declaring open the Meeting of Officials of the National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment at Ginginya Coral Hotel, Sokoto, Sokoto State Nigeria, with the theme: “Implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan through the Industry, Trade and Investment Sector.”
The Permanent Secretary asserted that Nigeria has exited recession as a result of sustainable reforms embarked upon by this administration, and “to sustain this growth rate, there is absolute need for all hands to be on deck to see to the diversification of the economy away from crude oil.”
He explained further, that the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is determined and committed to synergies with all stakeholders to put in place measures to actualize this year’s theme. “It is therefore, pertinent to note that this technical session is critical to the actualization of this theme and so it should be taken seriously.”
While welcoming Officials to the meeting, the Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Sokoto State, Mallam Aminu Bello expressed appreciation to Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah for acceding to Sokoto State to host this auspicious event in the ancient city of Sokoto; he commended the patience and cooperation of Council members and urged delegates from all over Nigeria to take advantage of the warm and hospitable nature of Sokoto State to relax and enjoy their stay “in the seat of caliphate.”
