……….Tinubu has Fulfilled pre-elections promises Idris, information minister

FIC Report (Bayelsa State) – The minister of information and National orientation, Alh Mohammed Idris has described President Ahmed Bola Tinubu as a promise keeper, who has delivered his pre-election campaign promises. Idris stated this at a Town Hall meeting, organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation (FMI & NO), held at Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Federal Secretariat complex, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on August 27th 2025.

The minister who was represented by the Head of Centre FIC Yenagoa & South-South coordinator FMI & NO, Mr. Francis Umoekut, said the sensitization was scheduled to communicate to Nigerians about the achievements of Tinubu led administration, as most Nigerians do not have adequate information.

Alh Idris, added that the forum presented one of the defining moments, in the civic space, to ventilate series of President Tinubu’s policy directives, programmes of activities, and other visible land mark achievements, in the area of provision of infrastructures, across the nation to enable citizens have a better understanding of what this administration has achieved so far.

The sensitization was put together, to communicate to the Nigeria populace, the robust indices of the Mid-Term track records of President Tinubu’s stewardship to Nigeria since he clinched victory in 2023 general election, and assumed the mantle of leadership of the nation, as the 16th President of the country.

FIC, Yenagoa organized the 2-day event with a Town Hall meeting at Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Federal Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa, on the 27th August, sensitization Rally, at some flash points in the Yenagoa Metropolis, and the popular bustling swali market arena, on the 28th August 2025.

The Town Hall meeting commenced from 11AM and lasted till 2PM, attracted Attendees. Audience drawn from virtually all walks of life comprising Academia civil servants, youths, market women, members of the press, civil society organizations etc.

The Resource Person, the General Manager of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Madam Dauju E. Whyte, highlighted the landmark achievements of President Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, in the area of formulation of good policies, provision of infrastructures, that had positively impacted the lives of ordinary Nigerians since he assumed power.

Drawing from the theme of the sensitization: “South South milestone”, The Resource Person shed light on the plethora of infrastructural projects dotted across the nation under president Tinubu, to include, the Sokoto – Badagrey Super Highway. The 600km Lagos-calabar coastal Highway which construction is on-going as examples.

The students loan scheme (NELFUNDS), which she said over N87bn has been committed, and over 900,000 thousand students across Nigeria have benefitted from. She remarked that the establishment of more institutions of higher learning across regions like the COE technical (Asaba, polytechnics and universities, had created opportunities for more intakes, and enrollment of students, into these newly establishment institutions of higher learning, and offer tens of thousand of employment opportunities, to teaching and non-teaching staffs.

The Resource Person, expatiated that the sound economic policies of His Excellency President Tinubu such as the fuel subsidy removal, which has freed up more capitals for funding of infrastructures, the floating of the naira in the foreign exchange market, and the increase in GDP to 34%, the highest in over 3 years.

Madam Dauju averred that about 8bn us dollars had been injected into oil& gas sectors development, and there is increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) into Nigeria.

Continuing, the GM of NTA, Yenagoa, cited the creation of new Regional Development Commissions, stressing that Mr. president had done so much in developing the South South region, for instance, the release of N500million to Edo women farmers to boast their Agric business.

The second speaker, a staff of FIC Yenagoa, Mrs. Gloria Ighovojah Afure, commended the Federal Government (FG), on not only road infrastructures, but expansion of rail infrastructures which has significantly boasted transportation in Nigeria.

She also remarked that Tinubu administration has given priority attention to strong and good health care delivery system in Nigeria, and has given hope to the patients with heart diseases, as FG has subsidized the cost of treatments, in dialysis centres in most states of the federation.

The chairman of the occasion, Hon Ndiwari Bulodisiye the Executive Chairman, Yenagoa LGA, represented by the secretary of the council, Hon Tarila Bebewari, appraised the FG for organizing the sensitization campaign through (FMI & NO), to convey the good messages of government policies to the masses, emphasizing that there maybe a lot of developments executed by FG, which the grassroots are not aware of, due to lack of information.

At the interactive session, a staff of National orientation Agency (name withheld), picked holes, at what he termed “grandstanding attitudes”, of most principal stakeholders in government circles. Noting that they always delegate representatives to public functions, instead of attending same, by themselves to witness true situations of things, affecting their subjects (people). He surmised that their actions do not stem from crowed schedules of duties as always insinuated, but as ploy by them not to commit funds or other incentives to enhance the lots of the people.

Similarly, Prince Sheriff Husain, who represented the Guest of honour, Mrs Kokou Obiyai Commissioner of information, orientation and strategy, Bayelsa State, acknowledges the intervention of president Tinubu, in the construction of sections of Nembe-Brass roads in the State.

All questions raised by participants during interaction, bordering on their areas of needs, such as inability to hook on information on FG programme, due to lack of funds to subscribe to NTA news bulletin, the disappearance of FRCN sub station (creek FM), from the airwaves high cost of housing accommodation in the state. Inadequate loan from Bank of Agriculture, to fund Agric business, where exhaustively and convincingly answered, by the Resource Person and other speakers.

Earlier the minister of information and National orientation, Alh Mohammed Idris, has lucidly reminded participants, that it was premised on the need to quash whatever negative perceptions Nigerians might have harboured against a performing Government in power, due to lack of information, that the sensitization is a desideratum. Even as he acknowledges President Tinubu, as a leader who has been able to steer the ship of the leadership of the Nigerian project effectively, but steadily on the placid waters of progress and national development.
