SGoF, FSS Rector Appeal To FG for Funds To Complete Projects

Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo who doubles as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal School of Surveying (FSS) has appealed to the Federal Government to provide enough funds for completion of various projects in the school which is located in Oyo town, Oyo State.

The SGoF who made the appeal while inspecting ongoing projects along with other council members at FSS, Oyo said the school was established since 1908 to train manpower in surveying and geo-informatics in Nigeria.

Surv. Taiwo reiterated the importance of the school to the country. He said it has transformed from being just a school hence it has been offering many other courses of environmental concerns. He said there was no need to build campuses of the school in other parts of the country since many universities and polytechnics now offer surveying and geo-informatics across the country.

In her remarks, Rector of the school, Surv. Dr. Dupe Nihinlola Olayinka-Dosunmu disclosed that the school would require over N2.5billion in the short-term, N5billion in the midterm or N17.4billion in the long-term to provide adequate facilities in the school and boost its standard.

According to her, the FSS was not limited by its mandate to run only courses in surveying and geo-informatics, but already has plan to run Geophysics, Geology among other courses so as to provide solutions to environmental challenges in the country.

Currently, the school consists of 4 departments: Surveying and Geo-Informatics; Cartography and GIS; Photogrammetry and Remote-Sensing; and Computer Science.

Earlier, Surv. Dr. Olayinka-Dosunmu conducted the SGoF and members of the council round various ongoing projects at the campus of the school; the projects include the 1,000 seat-capacity lecture theatre which was already being roofed; new administrative block, surveying boats at the central store, other lecture halls, hostel blocks undergoing rehabilitation, the computer software laboratory and the rector’s residence.
