The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensure that every child in Nigeria, regardless of disability, gender, background or circumstance is given an equal opportunity to learn.
The Minister made this known during a stakeholders sensitization workshop on the National policy on inclusive education in Nigeria, with the theme: Strengthening Inclusive Education for equitable Learning in Nigeria. Organized by the National Working Committee on Inclusive Education in collaboration with the Basic Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education on 22nd July, 2025 in Abuja.
The Minister stated that the workshop marks a pivotal moment in the collective effort to inculcate inclusive education to Nigerians. She therefore charged the stakeholders to reflect on the tremendous progress made so far, particularly on the vision of the National policy of inclusive education.
The Minister recognized that there are challenges that needs to be tackled for the success of implementation.
“Yes we recognize that there are things that needs to be done in terms of awareness, training, infrastructure, financing and policy implementation”, she said .
The Minister also said that the workshop provides opportunities for stakeholders to identify challenges and develop strategies for more inclusive education system in Nigeria.
The Minister expressed her appreciation to the Director, Basic Education Department and other partners for their sustained dedication and wished them a fruitful deliberation.
In her opening remark, the Chairperson, National Working Committee on Inclusive Education and the Director Basic Education, in the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Mrs Folake David, stated that the federal Ministry of Education, through the Basic Education Department has continued to prioritize implementation and domestication of National policy on inclusive Education, which is one of the pillars of quality Education,
Speaking further, the Director said that they are raising awareness, mobilize all stakeholders, government agencies, State actors, civil society of organization, parents, care givers and relevant partners to deepen their understanding and commitment to inclusive practices in their schools and environments.
She urged the participants to actively participate as the outcome of the workshop will bring more strategies in the implementation of the policy.
