FIC REPORT (SOKOTO STATE) – The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has called on the Federal Government to equip the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with modern equipment for effective migration and border management in the country.
He made the call on Monday, 21st September, 2026 while interacting with the participants of the 14th staff course of the Nigeria Immigration Command and Staff college, Sokoto, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Sokoto.
According to him, insecurity persists, and officers should not continue to lose their lives at their duty posts.He stated that, “you are going there to help the country, to secure your borders, not to be losing your lives.”
The Sultan Warned the Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service against abusing their uniforms while discharging their duties and charged them to learn from their virtues.He urged them to always do the right thing while discharging their duties effectively.
Also speaking, the Acting commandant of the Immigration Command and Staff college,Sokoto, Comptroller Musa Ismael Chonoko, said that they were at his palace as part of the tradition of the college to pay a courtesy visit to the Sultanate during the 14th command course, themed: “Smart Borders: Leveraging Technology for Effective Migration Control and Border Management.”
He further stated that, the course has 76 participants, including 8 Comptrollers and 68 Deputy Comptrollers.
Chonoko, commended the Sultan for his royal support and guidance to the Nigeria Immigration Service as well as for promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the country.
