FIC Report (Edo State) – The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has taken a significant step toward strengthening healthcare services in Edo State through a strategic collaboration with the Edo State Health Commodities and Drugs Management Agency (HECAMDA). The engagement was initiated during a courtesy visit to UBTH’s leadership, led by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, by the Executive Secretary of HECAMDA, Dr. Kenny Okojie, on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026.
The Meeting provided a platform for both institutions to explore avenues of mutual cooperation aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the State. Discussions centered on improving access to quality drugs and healthcare commodities, as well as fostering strategic partnerships that will benefit patients and bolster the overall healthcare system in Edo.
Representatives from UBTH included the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo; the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for Research and Ethics, Professor Adebola Ehizele; Head of Public Relations, Osaretin Iyen; and the hospital’s Personal Assistant to the Chief Medical Director, Mr. Erhauyi Iyekekpolor. The delegation from HECAMDA comprised key officials such as the Director of Pharmaceuticals, Pharm. Egiebor O. Boris; Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Mr. Omuera Francis; and Director of Shared Services, Mr. Abiola Sunday O., among others.
During the visit, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to improving Healthcare outcomes through closer collaboration. The discussions culminated in the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph, symbolizing their shared dedication to advancing healthcare excellence in Edo State.
This Partnership aims to streamline the procurement, distribution, and management of essential drugs and commodities, ensuring that healthcare facilities across the State are well-equipped to deliver quality services to the populace. Stakeholders expressed optimism that such collaborations will foster sustainability, efficiency, and greater access to vital healthcare resources for all residents.
The Visit underscores the ongoing efforts of both institutions to build a resilient healthcare system that prioritizes patient care, safety, and health innovation in Edo State.
