UBTH Receives Commendation From Minister Of Health

FIC Report (Edo State) – The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has been commended by the Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, for extensive overhaul of facility under the leadership of the new Chief Medical Director, Prof. Nibokun Ize – Iyamu .

Represented at the facility tour of the Institution, by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Daju Kachollom, the Hon. Minister, hailed Prof. Ize – Iyamu for some projects initiated by her since assumption of office.

The Minister praised the hospital’s management for a comprehensive upgrade, adding that within a year, the institution has been transformed into a modern, state – of – the – art healthcare center.

Prof. Ali Pate lauded the CMD’s strategic management and dedication which have significantly demonstrated a “hit the ground running” approach and serves as a model for national healthcare reform.

During the facility tour, the Minister’s representative, Mr. Kachollom, unveiled several projects initiated by Prof. Ize-Iyamu, which includes, the expansive Accident and Emergency (A&E) complex, which is now a 65-bed facility, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to providing prompt and quality emergency care. The hospital’s reputation as a Tertiary Healthcare Center has been reinforced by its comprehensive team of specialists across medical disciplines, including dentistry, laboratory sciences, and pharmacy.

The hospital’s mortuary facilities were found to have received a significant upgrade, including a revitalized complex with a private viewing room for families. The mortuary was expanded from 72 to 460 Chillers, with a complete overhaul of its ambiance and operations, ensuring respectful handling of the deceased. Additionally, a new Multi-Faith Centre was inaugurated to provide a serene space for families to perform last rites, addressing cultural and religious needs.

Further improvements include the renovation of the Renal Unit to offer expedited dialysis services through a new Premium Care Unit. The Pediatric Outpatient Clinic was transformed into a child-friendly space. The Oxygen plant was reactivated, and solar-powered lighting was installed for safety. These developments not only demonstrate a commitment to excellence but also reflect the Federal Government’s focus on transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

Earlier, the CMD, Prof. Ize-Iyamu, expressed happiness, recognizing the commendation from the federal government as a testament to UBTH’s commitment to excellence and community service.

The Award of Commendation not only honors the CMD’s hard work but also encourages continued innovation and dedication in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
