Uzodimma Stresses Stronger Collaboration, Intelligence Sharing To Tackle Insecurity

FIC Report (Imo State) – Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has reiterated the need for collaboration and enhanced intelligence gathering among security agencies as critical measures for addressing Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.

The governor made the call while receiving participants of Course 25 of the Defence Intelligence College (DIC), Abuja, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Owerri , Imo state as part of their study tour of the state.

Uzodimma stressed that safeguarding the nation’s security requires a collective effort involving all security institutions and the three tiers of government. According to him, no single agency possesses the capacity to effectively confront the country’s evolving security threats in isolation, making inter-agency cooperation and information sharing indispensable.

He noted that the relative peace and improved security currently being experienced in Imo State were largely the result of seamless collaboration among the military, police, intelligence organisations, civil defence and other security agencies operating in the state.

Uzodimma also applauded the Defence Intelligence College for acquainting its participants with practical field experience through study tours, describing the initiative as an important complement to classroom learning. He expressed optimism that the observations and recommendations arising from the visit would assist the government in formulating more effective strategies to tackle insecurity across the country.

The governor explained that beyond military operations, governments must prioritise economic development, job creation and social investments to address the root causes of criminality and violent conflicts, adding that sustainable economic growth continues to be the most effective long-term solution to the nation’s security concerns because it provides opportunities for young people and reduce criminal activities as well.

He then appreciated the Defence Intelligence College for selecting Imo state for the study tour and, encouraged intelligence officers to strengthen coordination among security agencies, improve information sharing and deepen engagement with local communities, noting that community participation remains vital to effective intelligence gathering and preventive security operations.

Earlier, Commodore Usman Bugaje, who led the delegation, said the participants were in Imo State to explore the role of operational intelligence in preventing crises situations and strengthening national security.

He said the study tour forms an integral part of the College’s practical training programme intented to expose participants to real-life security operations while reinforcing the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom.

Commodore Bugaje disclosed that the delegation would engage with security agencies, traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to evaluate the state’s security framework and identify best practices that could strengthen intelligence-led security operations.

He added that the findings from the exercise would be compiled into a comprehensive research paper with recommendations aimed at enhancing security management in Imo State and across the country.
According to him, Imo State was chosen for the study because of the notable progress made in improving security under Governor Uzodimma’s administration.

Commodore Bugaje expressed appreciation to the governor for the warm reception accorded the delegation, describing Imo as his “second home” while reflecting on his past security assignments in the state.
