In recognition of her lead actions in addressing some of the ills against women and children in society, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has been conferred with The Street Journal’s October 2023 Super Minister Award.
Receiving the award in her Office in Abuja today, Barr. Kennedy-Ohanenye thanked the organizers of the event, stating that the recognition was a challenge to do more in every capacity she finds herself.
The Minister stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration aims not only at empowering Nigerian women and children but also in providing them with equal opportunities and safety anywhere they are in the country.
She assured that the Ministry under her watch will continue to develop and implement policies, programmes and initiatives that will improve the lives of women and children through social inclusion, political and economic empowerment, with a view to alleviating poverty amongst them, thus ensuring a smooth and safe environment for all Nigerians.
When a woman is empowered, a home is strengthened to function more effectively. We are all aware of the roles women play in the homes. We are therefore putting strategic plans in place to ensure that the average Nigerian woman, especially the vulnerable are empowered to play their God-given role to the best of their ability. If this is achieved, we will have a safe and peaceful environment for the Nation, the Minister said.
Barrister Kennedy- Ohanenye stated further that this will go a long way in checking the rate of early deaths among husbands, school children dropout and early marriages among girls as a result of parents’ inability to further their education.
While commending the Organization for the Award, the Minister assured that it will spur her into giving her best to the service of her Fatherland.
Speaking during the Award Presentation, the Publisher of The Street Journal, Mr. Mogaji Arisekola stated that the Honourable Minister came tops in the Maiden Edition of a keenly contested online poll put together by his Organisation, an Ireland based newspaper.
He stated further that the initiative which was part of their contribution to national development, aims at spurring Ministers in the country to hardwork and diligence in order to ensure the realisation of the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Your emergence as winner cannot be contested, especially in view of your exemplary dedication to the cause of women and the girl child by ensuring that the rights of women and children are not trampled upon.
Topmost on the list being the way and manner you moved swiftly to tackle the case of the female one-chance victim who wasn’t given prompt medical attention at the Maitama General Hospital, Abuja, leading to her death, he added.
Signed
