…….Stresses importance of Kogi youths in ICT.
FIC Report (Kogi State) – Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, on Monday, unveiled the Kogi Youth Database platform at the Government House, Lokoja, to mark International Youth Day (IYD).
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Salifu Joel Oyibo, the Governor celebrated the theme of this year’s International Youth Day: “Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathway for Sustainable Development.”
The new platform, available at kogiyouthdatabase.com.ng, aims to facilitate connections and recognition for Kogi’s youths, encouraging them to leverage its resources.
Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of youth involvement, noting their achievements in fields like ICT, education, agriculture, and entertainment.
He affirmed his government’s commitment to empowering youth, stating, “They are not leaders of tomorrow; they are leading right now.”
He also commended the youth for their engagement in developmental activities over participating in recent nationwide protests.
Mr. Anyebe Aridaojo, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, praised the platform for its role in promoting digital entrepreneurship and urged youths to forge partnerships and take responsibility for Kogi State’s future.
Prof. Abel Joseph from Federal University Lokoja advised youths to use their digital skills for progress and innovation, while also being cautious of digital threats such as misinformation, privacy breaches, and cyber addiction.
Dr. Victoria Ifeoluwa Yemi-Peters, also from Federal University Lokoja, stressed the importance of acquiring and advancing digital skills to remain competitive in the job market.
She noted that digital literacy is crucial for business success.
Highlights at the occasion The event include a panel discussion on leveraging digital technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing cyber insecurity, and fostering government collaboration.
