Youth, Women and Retirees Engage to plant 1 billion Trees - Balarabe

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to plant 1 billion trees across the six geo-political zones of the country.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of the Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal in his office by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa OFR, in Abuja.

Balarabe stated that youth, women and retirees would be recruited to plant 1 billion trees across the six geo-political zones of the country in order to mitigate the massive effects of climate change.

He said, ‘ most things we take for granted are the major cause of our problem.’

The Minister, however, expressed his displeasure over the rate at which criminals have taken over the country’s forest reserved areas, using it to carry out their niferous activities against the innocent citizens.

He, therefore, sought collaborative and partnership efforts with the Nigeria army to mitigate the activity of banditry, killing of wildlife and logging of trees in our forest reserved areas.

Balarabe congratulated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa on his appointment as 18th Chief of Defence Staff of the country, adding that it was well deserved.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa, said he came around to have a close conversation with the minister and his team over the obvious effects of climate change in the country and how they can collaborate and partner to curb the incessant effects on the ecosystem.

General Musa congratulated the minister and his team for the efforts being made to mitigate the massive effects of climate change in the country and promised to leverage on those efforts by giving the ministry a maximum support in the area of preserving Nigerian forest.

In closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of environment, Muhmud Adam Kambari, thanked the chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa for his unwavering support and commitment to the nature.
