2024 Budget: OSGoF Updates Officers’ knowledge on Procurement Process

Ahead of the implementation of the bill of appropriation of N28.7 trillion signed into law for spending in 2024 by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) has taken the initiative to update the knowledge of its directors, heads of departments and other spending officers on major procedures of the procurement process.

OSGoF has before the national assembly defended a proposed budget of over N4.1 billion of which over N2.4 billion was earmarked for its various projects that are critical to the country’s defence and security, expansion and effective distribution of physical infrastructures.

While declaring open the in-house training organized by the Procurement Unit of the Office at the Conference Room of the Survey House in Abuja, the Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin reiterated that the procurement process was critical in the expenditure of public funds and should not be taken for granted by government officials.

Surv. Adebomehin noted that the process was technical and therefore ought to be unknotted for ease of understanding for better application as he commended the procurement unit for putting up the training for especially the management staff and all other spending officials at OSGoF.

The training was facilitated by the Head of the Procurement Unit at OSGoF, Ajayi Ambibola. The training focused on Quantity/Bill of Survey and Mapping.

She took them things to note in preparing Bill of Quantity (BOQ) and how to prepare the BOQ, and cautioned them on the need to ensure adequate knowledge of projects to be embarked upon, site visitation and market survey. Other items of concern which must be considered in the preparation of BOQ according her include the effect of inflation, contract profit margin, taxes, Bill 1/Administrative Fee and the calculation for total contract price.

Abimbola also cautioned that preparation of the BOQ should as a matter of necessity be done before the call for budget preparation and submission.
